ORCA LGS, the innovative design, manufacturing and training company has been working to tackle the UK housing crisis with a new design focused technology that has been placed at the forefront of the company’s latest project.

The North East based digital housing manufacturer is implementing their latest solution at a project in North Shields. This development is of a number of three bedrooms and three bathroom homes that are to be situated in a gated community in Priory Mews, Tynemouth. The development of these homes is expected to be complete in November.

The innovative digital manufacturing company has developed a cutting-edge way to deliver more housing in a shorter period of time. The solution they have developed requires local people and the use of offsite construction technology. This new solution has the potential to deliver around 10,000 housing units while also creating 1,500 jobs over the course of 5 years.

ORCA LGS has created a digitally manufactured Light Gauge Steel Frame with components that can be produced by a printer and assembled rapidly in a factory before being installed on site. This manufacturing process can deliver 100 square meters of housing each day. With the use of light gauge steel, the company is able to build more houses in a more cost effective and scalable operation. There is a significant skills crisis in the construction industry, therefore the off site solution offers an alternative to traditional building methods that require bricklayers and joiners.

The homes that are under construction at Priory Mews has expected to be amazing new additions to ORCA LGS’ portfolio as well as adding to the local area. The company has delivered a 10-week training programme as proof of the concept and looks to focus on people who are not in education, employment or training, creating brand new jobs for people who will be certified LGSF installers, or as the company refers to them, digital joiners. With the development of technology and its application, it is vital that advances are used in order to deliver more and higher quality housing.
