Saira Hussain from Hussain Architectural Design Attends Commons Debate

The multi-award winning, female-led Hussain Architectural Design founder, Saira Hussain attended the House of Commons last week for a debate. covering a range of different topics, the debate was hosted by Virendra Sharma MP and was attended by a number of other MPs such as Baroness Verma, Caroline West, Keith Best and Paul Scully.

The debate held in the Commons looked at a number of topics such as immigration, Brexit, the NHS, and Housing. Of course it was the focus on Housing that was of most interest to Saira Hussain. The founder of the multi-award winning Architectural and design company has said that more work needs to be done in order to overcome the housing challenges seen at the moment.

It has been estimated that around 10,000 new homes would need to be built every year in the North West of England alone in order to keep in line with the growing population. This means that the Government need to be looking into intensive and widespread house building in order to meet the demand for housing that is leaving a lot of younger people stuck renting.

Saira Hussain has said that she has spoken to a number of different people living in Lancashire and Manchester feel it is impossible to get onto the property ladder. At the moment the lack of housing stock is creating a demand, which is in turn driving up housing prices.

On top of this, research has been carried out that shows that housing prices are set to increase by well over a quarter over the course of the next four years. This housing price increase is a reflection on the feeling that what the government is doing isn’t enough. The lack of sufficient action means that there will continue to be a shortage of homes, and therefore a demand that increases prices.

There is also the question of where the new homes go. Most people suggest that building on brownfield is the solution, but this still doesn’t offer enough scope to meet the demand. Therefore, construction needs to go up, in the form of skyscrapers, or out, in to greenfield land when required.
